PHOTOGRAPHY & FILM

Biography

David Wohlfahrt received a camera for Christmas when he was 7 years old. He proceeded to photograph his goofy friends wrapping their long, cone shaped toques around each other’s neck, in the winter wonderland of northern Ontario. But it wasn’t until he entered high school that he took a more serious look at photography. It was there that he took notice of the AV tech at GFSS, John, with sometimes two camera’s dangling from his neck--photographing the events at the school. By grade ten David was actively processing his own film and printing his own images, sometimes skipping classes to be in the darkroom. Little did he know at the time that he would go on to take photography at Fanshawe College in London and move to Toronto to pursue a career as a commercial photographer.

David has surpassed many milestones in his career as a commercially accredited photographer. Working with Corporate, advertising and editorial clients, he rises to the occasion of a challenging assignment.

A few notable subjects include, Isaac Asimov, Pierre Burton, Robertson Davies, Peter Mansbridge, Lloyd Robertson, Liona Boyd, Aberhart Zeidler, and Lea Vivot.

What's New

David has completed a documentary film called "Wansen Revisited" A short version can be seen in the film section. The film documents the return of David's father to his birth town, Wansen. After world war II had ended the Soviet and Polish governments forcibly removed Germans from East Germany, an area in which they had occupied for nearly 200 years. Herbert and his family were forced to leave their home with only the clothes on their back. The entire town of Wansen walked 60 miles to seek refuge in the mountains. Many Germans have returned on pilgrimages to find inner peace, as well, they have made donations to the Polish communities.

Special thanks to Westar Music for title track music "Defending The Land" also to Jim Finlayson for performing and arrangement of the sound track. Canon XL-1 camera provided by William F. White Ltd.
